CHIP Poland

The Polish edition of the CHIP magazine has conducted a group test for 18 firewalls, applying different criteria to their quality. The testers have considered security features of each software, ease of use, interface and price. Two versions of Outpost have takes part in the competition: Outpost Free (1.0) and Outpost Pro 2.1. Both versions have received a very high grade and have won three awards: CHIP Power (Pro), CHIP Efficiency (both), CHIP Econo (Free).

Outpost Firewall was considered to be the most effective software solution against hijacking and data leaks. "Outpost provides with a very good protection against hackers' attacks and unauthorised data flow from users PC", reads the article. CHIP authors also stress that Outpost is a useful piece of software for user with any level of PC skills, calling it a "perfect solution not only for beginners but also for advanced users".

 


Australian PC User

Outpost Firewall Pro 2.1 had received a TopBuy Award from the Australian PC User Magazine. "Outpost Firewall Pro has a lot going for it. It's simple to use, has near-perfect presets, stateful packet inspection and a lot of features that you won't find in most other firewalls."

 


PC PRO UK

Outpost Firewall Pro was selected as a "Recommended" product by the British edition of the PC PRO magazine. Outpost was claimed to be "the best standalone firewall". "If all you are looking for is solid software firewall protection then it boils down to personal interface preference, support issues and impact on system resources. Outpost wins on this last count and matches ZoneAlarm on the others", reads the review.

 


PC Guia

Outpost Firewall Pro has become the Editor¡¦s Choice of the Portuguese ¡§PC Guia¡¨ magazine. The magazine had tested several firewalls such as ZoneAlarm, Kerio, Tiny, McAffee and other serious competitors.

Outpost was recognized as a user friendly and attractive product. The security level of the program was stressed extra: ¡§Outpost Firewall enables protection even before the Windows start up, being incorporated in the system on a ground level. Therefore, constructing rules on a system level, Outpost is considerably safer than most of the firewall software. The protection of Outpost is really of an industrial force.¡¨

The functionality of Outpost was considered to be outstanding: ¡§Not only it blocks the usual ads in the web pages, it also blocks Flash ads that the others fail to stop. Add cookies control and the referrer blockade, and you have an excellent program! Besides, its plug-in architecture means that it can expand easily later.¡¨

Outpost Firewall won first choice in firewalls in tests conducted by the Serbian magazine "Internet Ogledalo". Runners-up in the competition were Kerio Personal Firewall Limited Free Edition in second, and Tiny Personal Firewall in third.

The testing procedure involved installing, setting and then running the program in a real local office network directly connected to the Internet. The end-users who tested the program agreed that it fully met their needs.

In their summary of the test, Internet Ogledalo states, "Outpost Pro succeeded over other competitors due to its full set of features, usability, great layout and interface and easy support. Outpost was the most feature rich and yet the most applicable program. Besides, it works on Windows 2003 Server installations as well, and represents the most complete solution for its protection".

Outpost Firewall Pro received another media award in Sweden, this time from "Internetworld" magazine.

In a comparison called "Huge Test: The Best Protection for Your Computer" the magazine tested the eight most popular personal firewalls. Outpost Pro came in the winner, earning the highest possible score—a 5 of 5 rating—and receiving the "Best in Test" award.

According to the study Outpost won thanks to "its simple usage, its superior security, its attractive price, and the fact that it is much lighter on system resources".

British magazine PC Pro added new Outpost Pro 2.0 to its so called "A List", the list of top hardware and software products recommended to the readers.

PC Pro review distinguishes Outpost Pro 2.0 as "the best of its breed". Outpost was honored thanks to its redesigned interface, new event logging engine and improved stability.

PC Hemma of Sweden compared 17 firewalls. Outpost Firewall was awarded first place and “Best in the Test” with 12 points, trouncing the second place winner McAfee firewall by 5 points!

Råd&Rön is a magazine published by the Swedish Consumer Agency — a state agency having the goal to help Swedes with their consumer affairs.

Råd&Rön tested the following firewalls: Outpost Personal Firewall Free, Kerio Personal Firewall, Sygate Personal Firewall, ZoneAlarm Free, ZoneAlarm Pro, Look'n'stop Personal Firewall Lite, Norman Personal Firewall.

Outpost again topped the others receiving the highest rating from the editors.

The UK-based PC Plus magazine has honored Outpost with its "Editor.s choice" award.

In its Christmas Edition PC Plus compared the ten top personal firewalls in its Lab Test section: Outpost Personal Firewall, BlackIce PC Protection, Kerio Personal Firewall, McAfee Internet Security, Look.n.Stop, Sygate Personal Firewall, Norton Internet Security 2002, Tiny Personal Firewall, ZoneAlarm and ZoneAlarm Pro.

According to the study, "Whatever your security needs, Outpost has it. The superb Outlook-style interface is very easy to navigate, and even the most hardened technophobe can come to grips with firewalling a PC with Outpost"

The CHIP compared three firewalls: Zone Alarm 3.0, Tiny 2.0.15 and Outpost 1.0.1511. Outpost was named the winner for its functionality, rules presets, active content protection (blocking Java, ActiveX, Cookies) and plug-ins feature.

PCM, the leading Dutch magazine, compared Outpost, Tiny, Kerio, Sygate and Zone Alarm. They recognized Outpost as the most functional and awarded it their highest rating of 4 stars and “PCM Choice” award.

In its 10-2002 issue, PC Welt — the largest German PC magazine — released an article directly comparing the two leading personal firewalls: Outpost and ZoneAlarm.

Outpost 1.0 out dueled the latest version of Zone Alarm (v. 3.1), a very wide-spread personal firewall.

According to PC Welt's study, “Outpost is more easy to use, more feature-packed and meets all firewall standards”.
